It’s my favorite time of year! And they don’t call it fall for nuthin’.
I’m talking leaves…everywhere! 🍂
Like any self-respecting person with a 14 yr old nephew, I’m offering cash for raking.
And when I say raking, I actually mean walking around my yard with a leaf blower because I purchased every power tool I saw at Home Depot when I bought my house. It felt like the right thing to do as a new home-owner.
But guess who hasn’t come to my house to help with the leaves? Let me rephrase. Guess who is not interested in making extra cash?
You got it! My nephew.
Over the weekend, he did, however, commit to blowing leaves at his other aunt’s house.
You know why?
Because she offered him ginger cookies as part of the deal. 🤯
I was like, dude, I offered cash!
But dude didn’t want cash. He wanted ginger cookies. Well, cash too, but cash wasn’t enough by itself.
What was I doing wrong?
I realized I had forgotten the biggest rule of marketing, negotiation, persuasion….
You gotta find out what THEY think is valuable. Not what you think is valuable.
